Walk-Over Saddles and Bucks

Walk-Over…in addition to GH Bass, provided a well priced dirty buck when I was in college. I can’t remember who sold them but I can remember having a pair or two.
And you can best believe that I’ll be sporting these fuzzies that I just found in their Spring 2011 lineup. Spare me the tisk tisking. You know I’ll get ‘em and you know I’ll wear ‘em.
I’m already channeling the Sunday afternoon that’ll call for them. Just a wee bit too much sun by the pool. Shave-shower and don the linen. The ADG carcass throwing off a bit of heat as the vitamin-D settles in and manifests its therapeutic pop.
Linen trousers that shoulda been thrown away two summers ago. Cocktails. Cold ones. Especially summer ones that are so cold they not only burn on the way down but sizzle when they bottom out. Who couldn't help but be energized? The post-pool shower accelerates the glow. Preening like a Jack Russell just back from the groomers.
A smug swagger offers just enough extra to further incense those who gawk at the absurdity of a middle aged man in green soled shoes.
And certainly, waist pageantry in a completely different shade of green will transport this contrivance beyond fuzzidom to some Oz-esque redneck boondoggle of vulgarity. Mizrahi meets Jackass.
I’m thinking dinner at the bar. It’s half-price wine night at Mendocino in Georgetown. A ruse that promises to relieve you of twice the dosh you’d spend on any other night. Funny how that works. Seems like a light, flaky pan fish of some type would complement not only my sartorial flakiness but the non-sweltering-laser focused sun and heat of the early day too. Grilled…almost dry. No mid-winter heavy sauce comfort food concoction required.
It’s not needed on evenings when sun remnants still hold the sky at seven-thirty. Hurry spring. Hurry summer

Onward. Pastily.

You best be gettin' them and wearin' them! Spring can't be too far off, my wife asked me if we needed a new riding mower this year. Ah the sounds of summer.

Walk-Over made great bucks, used to buy mine at Bennie's in Atlanta, wish they were still available. Interesting you mention them, I was just telling my wife that I needed a new pair and wished Walk-Over was still available.

White bucks with lime soles...definitely swoon-worthy...be still my beating heart. And ADG, I still WANT that green belt!

My 'How To Buy ADG a Tie' post has just be reinforced ;o)

I dont know one single person who takes their Jack to the groomer. I have one and he has never needed to go.

It was in the 60s here on Sat..two weeks ago the girls were playing in snow. We may get jerked around by the jetstream, but in this case-I'll take it. Hoping ya'll thaw out soon...

I lust for summer, and am thinking of starting a coup de tat against old man winter's evil grip on us. I demand heat, I demand solar radiance, I demand massive melanocyte stimulation!
The tweets will stream, the streets will clog with Barbour and down clad bean boot wearing masses chanting (in unison, y'all) "We demand summer, we demand summer, we demand summer!" ( this comment in anticipation of your impending next snow and wind bringing winter storm, Sir, and our endless grey skies of rain rain rain...).
I do dig those green soled shoes btw...

For a minute it was here, summer, just as I read this. Gone, now, but we Californians cede complaint rights this time of year.

GAH, linen, liberty prints, and post-sun cocktails can't happen soon enough! I've decided to skip the pool membership this year and make the trek to Delaware's dirt-cheap Henlopen regularly instead this year. But I'm all up for G'town cafes and sweltering heat...bring it on!!!

A blue suede and a nanny red for me please

Summer is almost here, so I am thinking of getting a pair. But I wonder why they don't offer a loafer style? I've in mind a white buck loafer with a bright pink sole.

Love the green on this very dark day!

Anon 8:24 doesn't seem to realize that Walk-Over has been relaunched. Those lime green-soled jobs undoubtedly will be flying off the shelves. McNairy apparently had a role in helping to redesign/reconfigure the brand (I'm not kidding). W-O used to make the Brooks Bros. buck up until their demise in the mid to late '90s. The current W-O buck seems to have a longer vamp compared to the older ones that I still have in my closet.

LPC has the truth: In California we don't talk about the weather.

Some people do talk about movies. There's a well known flick that talks about White Bucks: "A Raisin In the Sun." Not the nicest thing ever said about college boys and their white shoes. Just sayin' that I'd get the green soled for the St. Pat's parade in Chicago & the local fans of "A Raisin In the Sun", & I'd get the red brick for the brick yards of...

I have a pair of Walkover brown and white saddle shoes (the slick kind) in about the same condition as the trousers you show. I'm rationing the remaining wearings to about 5 times a Summer. I'm not prezactly sure when I got 'em, but I'm positive the decade began with an "8". There is still a sticker price tag on the box. $85.00.

I already got my white nubuck heavily-brogued wingtips in anticipation of the warm days to come (2/3 off at that!). The wife has already preemptively announced that she will not be seen in public with me sporting them.

Y'know, I've been looking at the shoes Mark McNairy designs. There are some good ideas, and then there are some ridiculous ones. I've been wondering who on earth would buy those gawdawful ree-diculous ones he makes.

Now I know.

But how can a mass-market shoemaker profit if the market is limited to ADG?

One of the mysteries of life....

Our temps got to 63 here this past weekend. Sunshine and all. I can't even begin to tell you how great that sun felt on my face - one more wrinkle; I don't care. Yes, Hurry Summer. xoxo

I love those shoes. Sounds like heaven. I would just add a bowl of fresh fruit salad.

Love the green soles. However as my white bucks are in fairly nice shape and my chukka boots are only fit for yard work, the chukka boot model is what I require. I wish they sold them somewhere locally (DC area) or at least remotely close.

Best regards,

JRC

Walk-over is the best. I wore through several pairs in college. I called the store in Maine and they're $225...a bit pricey! Oh well, summer is just a few months away and I can break out the white!

Did someone call my name? My "summer" ears were burning so I hustled right on over. You know that Super Bowl Sunday is the official kick off to begin hoarding summer clothing. I have a leopard print bikini warming up in the wings...XXOO

OK Verb......you can't just throw that out there. If we don't see a pic of you sportin' the animal skin on your blog after S-Bowl, you're toast.

Greetings everyone from "the ATL"... Looks like my neck of the woods dodged the snow bullet so I'll probably be able to get home without an overnight snooze in the airport.

Amazing that a green soled shodding can evoke so much. That simply says to me that I'm not the only one who's feeling the need for sunnier skies and fairer climes. I'm gonna have to use some of my travel points and head to an island for a long weekend rather soon. I'll be reviewing applicants for a potential travel partner. I'll need photos to assist in determining eligibility. And calipers might be required as well.

Trusting that everyone is safe, warm and dry.

Onward. ADG

I think that it would be safe to assume I am not what you had in mind as a traveling companion. I as well assume you do not plan on an Aleutian island as that destination. :-)
Safe travels!

Scale...that would be correct.
