Paul Newman and the L.L. Bean Camp Moc

Newman classically shod.

...apparently he missed the memo about white socks though. Hey! A post idea!

He was so handsome and well mannered. (But I've always had a thing for an older man.) Too bad there aren't more like him.

On a somewhat related subject, this whole L.L. Camp Moc/Blucher debacle is just twisting about in the ol' brain-pan, isn't it? That is if I'm picking up on a nascent recurring theme here as of late. Life is short, D...and the Shoreys make a fine shoe. Pull!

Years ago they ran road course races here in Charlotte, and some friends got into the garage area. Saw Newman walking down a hall, "Hey, Paul Newman", "Sorry, no autographs", "Screw that, where's your car", "Oh, car guys!".

Took them back to his area, introduced them to the crew chief and said show 'em around. They said he wanted to stay and talk cars, but was late for a meeting...great guy

Easy Max, my heart skipped a beat there, old lady like me can't afford skipped heart beats please no more erotic VW bug convertible photos, Lawd I love that car must have had 3 or 4 back-to-back, never that far back though, just look at that driver's side mirror, there's no heat or air to speak of in that car right there. Makes my heart sing.

Shod or not, white socks or not - Paul Newman did no wrong. :-) xoxo

I just watched "Sometimes a Great Notion" for the first time in a while. Tremendous movie and one of Newman's most over-looked roles.

This is alright but for a minute I thought I walked in the wrong door. The black still gets my vote, as it did in the last election.

He was the coolest of the cool.

Uh, those white socks were made out of wool, and were actually cream colored, natural white wool. They were way beyond cool when that photog was taken.

I had the good fortune of meeting Paul Newman at the Kenyon College Bookstore twenty four years ago while he was in the vicinity for a few days to race at the Mid Ohio road course.

Very congenial, he noted he was a voracious reader and was delighted to hear that I purchased a few bottles of his new launched salad dressing while on a recent business trip to Connecticut. He indicated that he hoped the venture would succeed because they made a great product but that the recipient of the profits, a not for profit organization he had established with his partner was the most important aspect of the venture.

My takeaway from our conversation was his natural nonchalant style - he was clothed Steve McQueen style in a pair of jeans, boat shoes, polo shirt and tab Barracuda jacket along with his unwavering ability to be gracious to all of the people with whom he spoke.
