Trad-Ivy Tuesday: Patches

Here. Look at this. It's a patchwork sweater of some sort. I intended to write a Trad-Ivy Tuesday story about all of the patch things I wore in college but I don't have time. So Trad-Ivy Tuesday will end up being Trad-Ivy Thursday this week. I'm about to jump a plane to Cincinnati. Oh joy. Plus, blogging occupies my mind and distracts me from other things and I don't want that. In other words, blogging right now, unless I'm writing some wallowing-self pitying story, gets in the way of my suffering.
We not only wore patches...we all used to sing Patches at about one in the morning--KA House time. "...I told mama I was gonna quit school but she said that was daddy's skrictest rule..." Most semesters they told me that I was gonna quit school.

Onward. To Cincinnati.

ADG Twice.

...as penned by the late, great General Norman Johnson of the Showmen and Chairmen of the Board.
Check out his version...

I have the same sweater in lime, hot pink, yellow, blue and white patches. One of my most prized possessions.

Did you steal this sweater from the prop room of the Cosby show?

I like Clarence Carter's version of Patches much better. And I'm a huge fan of Norman Johnson. But his version just doesn't...Stand.

And finally, that sweater DOES look like it could come from the Cosby Show wardrobe locker.

"KA time" reminds me of my pledgship. The Mansion had an old phone line that was manned by the pledges around the clock. Each pledge was assigned blocks of time to sit by the phone. The phone was primarily used by brothers to ask for safe rides from the bar, or back from class, sometime's you'd get unique requests, "I'm at _____ bar, and my cigarette ain't gonna light itself." When the phone rang, the dutiful yet unlucky pledge would answer with the following greeting: "This is The Kappa Alpha Order, home of the South's most distinguished, fine Southern gentlemen; where hospitality and congeniality reign supreme. Mint juleps will be served on the veranda from the hours of 5 to 7 PM Confederate Standard Time. To which honorable lady or fine gentlemen do you wish to speak?" Granted, you wouldn't get more than the first word out before a brother would tell you to shut up and call you something unsavory. These were some of the finest times in my 29 years thus far. Hope you and yours are well, ADG. Your starry eyed admirer, OrderSandlapper

Oh, how I wish that fraternities at my college had not been way stations on the way to hell! All they were about was substance abuse (alcohol and others) and sex (including homosexual experimentation).

This post made me smile this morning.

I, too, prefer the Clarence Carter version of Patches....but the General Johnson version reminds me of the Delta Sigma Phi Lawn Party (NC State) the Chairman of the Board played when my husband was the social chair.

@ ilovelimegreen, I also had the women's equivalent, I believe I wore it with hot pink wide-wale corduroys and Weejuns.
