Linen--End on End--In Tampa

Greetings from Tampa and my reprieve from the tentacles of a never ending east coast winter. I remain winter-time-pasty and it's a bit too early for linen back home but I had to bring it out for Tampa. And end-on-end shirting fabric is generally meant for warmer weather. But my fuzziness and impertinence beckons end-on-end year a damn 'round. In case you are uninformed about end-on-end cotton... "The interesting subtle texture is created by alternating colored threads, usually a dominant color interwoven with white. End on end was first invented by the French (fil-à-fil), a fabric in which white thread is interwoven with a colored thread to produce a subtle textured effect."
Jules Hertling et al over in Brooklyn contrived these Irish linen togs for me...years before the birth of my little gem LFG. Bulletproof is an understatement.
Well of course we tart up our end-on-endings...just like most of my shirts. Shut up.
And as always, I don't care how much of a dressed down hygiene holiday my clients take, this is as dressed down as I'm gonna go.
One of the things that I enjoy doing when I'm on the road is penning letters to LFG. She gets a kick out of it and I love telling her why I love her. Why don't you write someone a letter today?

Onward. From Tampa. In linen. Thinking about summer and the music that used to go along with such contrivances as suntans, gin-tonic and linen.

Dear Max,

I love you because my heart skips a beat when I see your name at the top of Toad's blog roll, Toad has his blog roll set so the newest is at the top [you don't]. I love you because you sacrifice all for your narrative, including yourself, your dignity, your intelligence, your good taste, you don't care if your reader thinks you troll matchdotcom [or the sidewalk] for loose women as long as the narrative is high, tight and wild. I love you because I don't really think you open one button too many to display curly gray chest hair in real life, I love you because you're a marvelous Dad even though you took a hit for beating those 2 little girls at Monopoly, I know you were really modeling and demonstrating "strategy" so theyd be equipped for the future. Keep on keeping Onward, Max. You're a rare gem.

Welcome to Tampa ADG. Although, not sure about the weather reprieve with overcast and rain of yesterday and the 48 degree temp at wake-up time this a.m. (close to an arctic blast by our standards)....but your rig should be good the rest of week.

What a treasure of memories your daughter will have with those letters. Great idea - letter-writing is a dying art.

Love the letters! However, may I offer a constructive criticism? You talk about what she *does* versus loving her for who she *is*...now, I think we all know that your love for her is not based upon her performance (grades, soccer, etc) and I am sure she does as well....but every once in awhile, be sure to *tell* her that. Make sense?

Your daughter will save those letters forever! I still have every single letter that my dad wrote to me. Tied up in a stack with a piece of pink ribbon . . . I love linen, even with the "rich" wrinkles. xoxo

Like Preppy 101, I saved my father's letters. I also saved the ones he wrote to my children when they were small. I'm so sorry he didn't get to meet them when they grew up. Your darling girl will love having them and sharing them.

Great blog, I have been reading some of your past posts, creative fun and informative. Good to see linen. I don't think that winter will ever loose it's grip on the mid west. I will have to take your advice and pen my daughter a letter, what a great idea.

SoPro- I think most of the "reasons" ADG lists are indeed unconditional.

ADG- On a separate note, I think you "outed" yourself, Internet-wise, with your recent post on Martin and Eva. But so is The Trad, and not that it matters...

Great Blog. I have been reading some of your past posts, creative fun and informative. I can't wait to read more past posts. Great to see linen, I just purchased a pair of button fly trousers and can't wait to put them on. I don't think we will see spring till after Easter. I will have to take your advice and pen a letter to my daughter. Keep the posts coming.

Columbia was warm enough the other day to justify a Pimm's cup. Who needs Gin?

You have really interesting handwriting, I like it. Where does the "fuzzy dice" term come from? Keep up the good work.

When my lovely daughter was LFG's age, she took a somersault over the handlebars of her bike. Both arms in a cast for six weeks and we had no television. She could barely turn the pages of her books. Awful, awful for her, but bless her heart she was so good-natured the whole time. I remember decorating paper placements for her lunch tray -- notes to her, pictures, cartoons. I did everything but tap dance to keep her entertained. Silly, I know, but I wish now that we had save some of those placements.

Gail...can't imagine two broken arms simultaneously...sounds like you, the good mom, made the best of a tough situation.

Mason...the handwriting...sometimes problematic. "fuzzy dice" ... refers to the pair of plush, fuzzy dice that people hang from their rear-view mirrors in their cars...metaphorical re...tacky, excessive, showy...ie...me.

JuneS.Doray...Pimms...why waste your time?

JAC...button fly trousers are a pain in the fly...specially when you really have to pee.

AnonOuting....yep...I've always been kinda sloppy with the whole thing and it's not a big deal. I was aware of it when I did that post so it's no prob with me. Now here's my social security number.....

SoPro/Stacy/Preppy101...thanks and SoPro...nope...it's all about performance.

Flo...thanks...really.

JMW...indeed.

MegTown...I had a fish called Wanda.
