True Prep and Take Ivy

Just preordered over at Amazon.com both True Prep and Take Ivy. I loved the Official Preppy Handbook and remember buying it here in D.C. during the summer that I worked on the Hill.
It was fun to read the kitschy-campy take on such a staid-code ridden world. I’m sure that True Prep will be fun but not nearly as much so as the original. Kinda like the second time I saw the Doobie Brothers. Even with Michael McDonald, they were good but it wasn’t the same as the first time.

Here's a little snippet from Lisa Birnbach and Chip Kidd....

Take Ivy…as I think Tucker or maybe Tintin posited…those of you who have the original edition and want to get the proverbial big bucks for it, you better sell it now before the new edition lands in the distribution warehouse at Amazon. I remember the original Take Ivy volume going for crazy money on eBay.
Speaking of crazy money, I owned eleven pristine volumes of Apparel Arts once upon a time. Sold them to pay the lawyers. The above cover shot was stolen from Tintin.

Onward-voluminouslyesque…ADG

Birnbach has certainly earned her chops as a master satirist, so her new effort will be eagerly awaited. Funny how so many people still don't realize that the OPH was indeed a work of satire. In the proto-Reagan era, WASPs were still considered part of the power elite, which may have accounted for some of the attraction, but as the subtitle ("a whole new old world")implies, this is no longer the case. So who really cares about the wives of hedge fund managers anymore? Some of this new ground may have been already covered by the Filthy Rich Handbook.

I'm interested in how they will apparently deal with the RL problem. (Philosophers deal with the mind/body problem- Prep bloggers the RL problem.)

Is Chipp Kidd wearing that RL horse blanket jacket that you admired in the store a few months back?

That video is like watching sausage being made.

SubPrincess...I dyed my hair this morning.

Anonymous...You nailed it! Satire was eggzackly the intent but I fear it will be lost on the second book so those that didn't get the satire in the first one won't notice what I suspect will be a less edgy satiracal delivery in the sequel. Keep in mind I have nothing to base this speculation on.

Kidd is not wearing the blanket plaid RL jacket that I admired back in the winter. He's wearing-maybe RL-a muted cotton jacket-madras?

The best quote from that video was was Birnbach said:

"Anyone can be a preppy, I'll let you in. Now I'm not sure they would let me in, but well, I wrote the book"

There is an entire generation who thinks the Preppy Handbook is a how-to guide ~sigh~

Hopefully I can just steal my sister's copy, as I did with the original.

ADG - OK, so this may actually be the first post to which the Anonymous English Female in Barbour and brogues knocking back a G&T at the bar of the Admiral Cod round the corner from her flat on Sloane Avenue is so utterly baffled she's incapable of making any comment whatsoever...

I pre-ordered both about a month ago. I hate to wait so long, but I figure I will have forgotten I did it by then and they will be a nice surprise when they do finally show up at my house.

I'm with AEF on this one. (At least I wish I were).

There is minimal resale value in my OPH as it the spien has split. And I can't deny how much it influenced my college application decision process.

You've hit the nail right on the head here. TOPH is actually "THE handbook" and it appears that True Prep will be the satire. Of course we will all have to wait and see but for now I'm gonna judge this book by its cover...
